Institute of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine (IITCM), China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences(CACMS), celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2006. Since day one ( May, 1981), IITCM has been the unique national institution of information on TCM in China,  it is one of the 14 major operating components of the CACMS. The president of currently in office is Prof. Cui, Meng.

IITCM has 155 employees, 4 research units: Document resources center, Data center on TCM, Intelligence center on TCM, Information cooperation center on TCM.  IITCM was authorized by the Ministry of Education to award Master degrees in Informatics. And IITCM is one of the   WHO cooperation centers for informatics of TCM, it is the director commissioner of Committee on Library and Information Service of Chinese medicine. And it is the Chinese medical document retrieval center of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China. It is the data-sharing center of TCM, Currently, the TCM database system consists of over 60 categories of Chinese Medicine Databases.

The library of CACMS has the largest and most extensive collection of books and journals on TCM in the country, among which over 20,000 volumes of books are rare and precious editions. The Traditional Chinese Medical History Museum in the Academy, with more than 3,000 pieces of collected historical relics, is a specialized professional museum, which contains the biggest collection of TCM relics in China.

IITCM mainly carries out collection, storage and service of scientific and technological documents, database building, information standardization research, information analysis and research, information service network infrastructure construction, information professionals training. IITCM publishing Chinese Journal of Information on TCM, China Medical Abstracts – TCM, and International Journal of TCM.
